Sharon | Age 28
History of headache: recurrent headaches since she was a teenager
Migraine-related symptoms: headaches with moderate to severe throbbing pain, about once a week, usually lasting between 4-6 hours, accompanied by sensitivity to light and exacerbated by movement.
Sharon is currently prescribed a triptan, but generally delays taking it until she can get home.
Ruth | Age 32
History of headache: migraine attacks starting in her 20s
Migraine-related symptoms: fewer migraine attacks than before, now at about 5-7 a month
Ruth is currently on a preventive treatment and started taking medication for depression 3 months ago. Previously, she complained that the 9 pills a month of her acute treatment weren’t enough to cover her frequent migraine attacks. That's why she waits to see if the migraine becomes severe before she takes her acute treatment.
Jonathan | Age 56
History of headache: migraine attacks that began in his 20s
Migraine-related symptoms: 4 days per month (on average) of severe, unilateral, pulsating headaches accompanied by sensitivity to sound
Jonathan is a new patient and has historically felt well managed with his triptan medication. However, he was recently diagnosed with multiple cardiovascular risk factors and discovered a family history of cardiovascular disease, causing his physician to discontinue his triptan therapy. He has now turned to over-the-counter treatments.
