Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis (Ped UC)
What is the Challenge with Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis?
- Incidence from 1 to 4 per 100,000 per year in most North American and European countries1
- Estimated prevalence of 21.6 per 100,0002
Adapted from : Kayal M and Shah S. J Clin Med. 20203
aOver 3–4 years;
bCumulative 5-year reported rate.
Patients’ First surgery is Earlier in Childhood-onset than in Adult-onset UC6
STRIDE-II: Time-Based Treat-to-Target Recommendations for UC in Pediatrics7
*Time to achieving the target vary based on therapy and mechanism;
#The cutoff value of fecal calprotectin is dependent on the desired outcome. Lower thresholds (e.g. <100 μg/g) have been proposed for reflecting deep healing (both endoscopic and transmural healing) or histological healing;
†Assessment of endoscopic healing can be achieved by sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. When not feasible, alternatives in CD can be capsule endoscopy or balloon enteroscopy.
